NSS Units
An institution will be allotted NSS units according to the strength of its students. The numberof units will be allotted by the program coordinator in consultation with the NSS RegionalCenter and State Liaison Officer, considering the demands of the institution. It is expectedthat the institution will provide the necessary facilities for the successful running of the NSSunit because it is part of the institution, i.e., a college or school.
The strength of a unit will be 100 NSS volunteers normally. The strength of the NSS unit canbe extended to 120 volunteers in exceptional cases where the second unit cannot be raiseddue to constraints. It is always preferable that a separate unit be started instead of enrollingmore NSS volunteers.
In exceptional cases where the total number of students enrolled is very small, a smaller NSSunit can be started with the strength of 75 NSS volunteers.
