ANNOUNCEMENTS

Profile

The Department of Physics was established in the year 1979-1980 with a laboratory to teach Physics as an ancillary subject for B.Sc., Mathematics students. Under Graduate Program in B.Sc Physics began in the year 1988-1989 and the Physics laboratory has been continuously upgraded year by year to cater to the needs of changing syllabus. Now the Laboratory is equipped with advanced apparatus.

In 2002, a Vocational course on Mass Communication and Videography was introduced as per the Madurai Kamaraj University syllabus, leading to the establishment of a Videography Laboratory. This facility is well-furnished with the finest equipment, enabling Science students to produce their own audio-video productions as an ADD-ON course. The department also provides two Certificate courses namely CCA and C & Graphics. All the classrooms are enabled with ICT facilities. Our department also facilitates the student community by issuing books from its library.

Post Graduate programme in Physics was established during the year 2018-2019 under Self Financing Scheme. In 2022, the department was upgraded to a research center, with three full-time and one part-time scholars currently pursuing research.

Our faculty members have received fund from UBA and TNSCST to proceed their research areas. Additionaly the College Management is encouraging and alloting Institutional Seed Money to the faculties for doing research works in innovative areas.

Two Faculty members from our department have served as co-ordinators for conducting National Science Day Program with a funding of Rs. 2 lakhs by TNSCST , Chennai.

The Alumni Association of the Department of Physics is highly active and supportive. Many alumni hold high-ranking positions in various sectors such as State Government, Central Fovernment, Banking and IT. They annualy meet current students, providing financial assistance and guidance in curricular and extracurricular activities, as well as career opportunities. Alumni are also part of the intitution's Board of Studies meetings, where their suggestions are valued. The department takes great pride in the achievements and contributions of its alumni.

Under the banner of Raman Association, the Department of physics organizes a variety of programs every year .
