The Department of Social Work is established in this Institution with the inauguration of Post Graduate Course in Social Work (MSW) in the year 2006. Later on, the Under Graduate course in Social work (BSW) is also introduced in the year 2007. The institution as well as the department has gained its autonomy status in 2015. The courses have been offered with the prime objective of developing efficient young professionals in the field of Social work. This course has unique blend of Theoretical knowledge to be applied in practical sessions in the form of fieldwork practicum.

The course is offering three specializations at the Post Graduate Level viz. Human Resource Management, Community Development and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. The Human Resource specialization equips students with knowledge and skills in manpower planning, recruitment, training, labour laws and labour welfare measures in Industrial Sector. The specialization Community Development trains students to work with various target people and at larger community level to handle their issues with advanced techniques and harness resources at various levels for the betterment of the society. Those who are specializing in Medical and Psychiatric Social work would become Counsellors , Psychiatric social workers , De addiction Counsellors  who will handle the psychological aspects of the general public.

The department, as part of its outreach Programme, started Counselling centre in the year 2022, which provides counseling services to needy students.

To provide inter disciplinary collaboration for better understanding of human problems, services and issues related to human development. To promote among learners a sense of dedication and commitment for disadvantaged sections of the society.
