Profile
The PG department of Physics was established in the year 2018 and has grown from a tiny seed into a huge tree in the past five years. The department was upgraded as the research center by the Madurai Kamaraj University in the year 2022. Our laboratory is well equipped to cater our M.Sc., Physics students and also B.Sc., Chemistry students. The department is well equipped with research tools that could enable the young minds with research thirst. One of the classrooms is enabled with ICT facility. The department has reputed faculties in various fields. All the faculty members in the PG Department of Physics are highly qualified, with the highest academic degree, “Doctor of Philosophy in Physics”. There are 4 faculties in the department with Crystal Growth, Crystallography, Nanomaterials, Condensed Matter Physics and Spectroscopy as their areas of specialization. The department has reputed faculty members serving as resource persons, members in academic bodies in various institutions in and around Madurai district. We are conducting NME classes to other PG courses and handling theory papers for UG Chemistry (Allied Physics) courses. The students are provided with ample opportunities to acquire knowledge about recent developments in the fields of Physics through guest lectures and intercollegiate competitions conducted by the Physics Association. Besides, the department offers a Hands-on Training Program in Mobile Technology from 2022. The alumnae of the department are well placed in diverse areas including educational institutions and IT sectors. The staff members have been playing a major role in shaping the future of students. The mission is to serve society by educating our students as discerning citizens and leaders in productive careers, and by advancing knowledge and understanding through basic and applied research.
