Mentor - Mentee


This system has been introduced to establish a better and effective student-teacher relationship and guide the students in Academic matters. All teachers work as Mentors to the students’ allotted to them. Students will have to go and meet their Mentor at least once in a month for guidance. The students must feel free to confide in their Mentors, their Academic problems.

The Mentor – Mentee System strives to facilitate a positive environment that provides all students with academic support necessary to foster their success. The center is charged with supporting the academic trajectory of incoming and continuing students as they explore their talents and discover new interests.

Benefits of Mentor – Mentee System

The Mentor – Mentee System enables students to:

  • Access and utilize academic and student support services and resources;
  • Develop an educational plan that outlines and leads to timely completion of the selected degree program;
  • Understand academic and administrative policies and procedures;
  • Develop vital critical thinking and independent decision-making skills to make and accept responsibility for academic decisions;
  • Evaluate personal interests and abilities leading to the discovery of academic and professional goals.

Student Roles & Responsibilities

  • Identify your academic advisor and his or her contact information
  • Seek your advisor early in the semester. Being proactive is the KEY to academic success.
  • Understand your academic advisor’s role and how he or she can help you.
  • Familiarize yourself with the requirements of your major by obtaining a copy of the curriculum guide and maintaining an accurate record of your successful completion of courses.
  • Meet with your academic advisor for at least three sessions throughout the semester.
  • Notify your academic advisor of any recent changes in your profile information (address, telephone number, email, etc.)
  • Know your current cumulative grade point average and your current amount of earned credit hours.
  • Stay up to date with important dates and deadlines on the academic calendar and UDC website.
  • Utilize university email as an official form of communication with faculty and staff.
  • Know that your advisor is an advocate for you and is available to help you throughout the entire semester.
  • Prepare your schedule based on your curriculum guide before meeting with your advisor during early registration.
  • Keep all notes, forms, and paperwork for advising sessions.

Mentor Roles & Responsibilities

The Mentor – Mentee System enables students to:

  • Help students explore possible fields of study.
  • Answer questions about specific major requirements.
  • Review curriculum guides and coursework with students.
  • Discuss academic progress with students and assist with academic planning throughout the semester.
  • Inform students of academic support opportunities when they struggle to perform in courses.
  • Recommend academic enrichment opportunities such as undergraduate research and internships.
